Market Produce

Market Produce

It’s a joyful feeling to walk into a Market Produce department and be greeted by an artist’s palette of bright colors on display—Oregon’s farm-fresh bounty, many local, familiar creations of nature, and some never-before-seen varieties ready to bring home to your table. It’s the satisfaction of knowing just how lucky we are to live in a place where an abundance of fruits and vegetables are growing and ripening throughout the seasons. It’s heart-felt gratitude for our nearby farmers who strive to bring us their fresh, organic, and nourishing harvest every season and for helpful employees who can answer questions about the produce we offer and how to prepare them in healthful dishes. We’re always happy to give you a taste, too. Great, seasonal produce doesn’t get any better than here.

Partnership with the Dry Farming Institute

Mike Ellis grew up on the farmland that was his grandpa’s in Molalla, Oregon, and has carried on the family’s farming tradition at Mt. Hope Farms, learning the ropes from the time he was old enough to operate farm equipment, he says. Mike and his wife, Laura, specialize in making small-batch fruit spreads, crafted from the variety of berries and grapes grown on the farm. You can find Mt. Hope Farms fruit spreads in your Market’s specialty Cheese Shop. With flavors like Oregon Cranberry-Marionberry, Autumn Apple, Blueberry Orange Spice, Blackberry-Aronia-Lavender, these delicious spreads are perfect for your next cheese board. Ask your Market Cheesemonger for pairing recommendations. Market of Choice also carries Mt. Home Farms table grapes in the Produce Department. Grown organically and handpicked by the Ellis family at the peak of ripeness, these sweet, seedless grapes are delivered quickly to your Market to ensure premium quality and freshness.
Per the Institute: “Dry farming is often described as crop production without irrigation during a dry season, usually in a region that receives at least 20 inches (50 cm) of annual rainfall, and utilizes the moisture stored in the soil from the rainy season. A broader definition of dry farming is a low-input, place-based approach to producing crops within the constraints of your climate. As we define it, a dry-farmed crop is irrigated once or not at all
