What started more than 30 years ago as a humble vegan and vegetarian catering service in Portland has grown into Higher Taste, a beloved Pacific Northwest maker of flavorful meat-free foods. Their creative, ready-to-eat sandwiches, burritos and salads quickly gained a loyal following and began appearing in local cafés, grocery stores, universities and hospitals across Oregon—earning rave reviews along the way.

Higher Taste also helped shape the plant-based movement itself. In 1995, founders Hans and Rhonda Wrobel partnered with Seth Tibbott of Turtle Island Foods to help bring the now-iconic Original Tofurky Roast to life. Today, their full line of natural foods—from burritos and Buzzitos to Happy Hoagies and Hanzi’s Famous Salads—is still crafted by hand in Cornelius, Oregon using high-quality ingredients and plenty of Northwest pride.
