Mamancy Tea

Mamancy Tea Co. – Beaverton

Tea offers a taste of tranquility when enjoyed alone, but it can also be the focus of a favorite social ritual that brings together family and friends. “Growing up in Kenya, my family had the tradition of gathering and drinking tea,” says Anne Johnson, owner of Mamancy Tea Co. in Beaverton. “It was a great time of joy and well-being for all.” Anne wanted to share that tradition when she opened her tea shop. She studied her favorite beverage while attending a tea sommelier school in San Francisco, learning about processing, blending and evaluating all types of tea. Anne makes an organic, caffeine-free vanilla rooibos herbal tea blend that’s sweet, smooth and full-bodied. Popular for centuries, rooibos comes from the Republic of South Africa, typically from the western mountainous region. Tea is an all-season beverage that can be served hot or cold. “Our loose-leaf teas would be great when cold-steeped to make iced tea, blended drinks or to add to your ice cream,” Anne says. “Hot tea is soothing and comforting and great for cold, rainy days, which we have so many to enjoy in Portland!”

Mizuba Tea

Mizuba Tea Co. – Portland

Charmed by the peaceful tea fields of Uji, Japan, Lauren Purvis made it her mission to share her fondness for matcha tea with her own Portland community, through the meaningful connections she’s made overseas. Blessed to travel to many places throughout her life, tea was a constant that Lauren consumed and collected information about everywhere she went, starting in middle school. Today, she owns and operates Mizuba Tea Co. and works closely with small, family-run farms in Uji, Japan, to produce six grades of 100% authentic, shade-grown, stone-ground matcha. Lauren’s company also produces Japanese heritage loose-leaf teas, rarely found outside of Japan and carefully chosen from select farmers and producers. For more than 800 years, matcha is the only tea to have been used in the Japanese tea ceremony. Lauren honors and values matcha to bring people together and start conversations. Antioxidant-rich and easy to prepare, matcha contains nutrients from the entire tea leaf. Discover the magic of Mizuba Tea Co.’s versatile matcha teas, which also make a great ingredient for baking!

Coffee Market Overview

Coffee

We take coffee seriously. When deciding whether to carry a particular coffee, we research the roaster’s sourcing practices, the quality of the beans, the roast profile and how the coffee cups.

We focus on local roasters, and closely monitor best-by dates to ensure our coffee is always fresh. When you need to grind, you can depend on our high-quality, in-store grinders to do the job while protecting the integrity of the beans.

Additionally, our Beverage Stewards receive ongoing training and cuppings, so they can help you choose the right roast. Stop by and check out our selection of locally sourced and single-origin coffees.

Tea

From loose leaf, bagged, and chai concentrates, to matcha powders, mushroom teas, yerba mate, and hand crafted local options, we have more choices in tea than most any grocer in town. And, we’re always leaning in to learn more about tea trends from those who truly know their stuff.

You see, tea and coffee are like wine in that the variety, terroir and farming practices greatly impact the flavor. That’s why we pay attention to how our tea is sourced, and focus on local makers that we know and trust.

Take a trip down our grocery aisle and find the right variety for you. Or, stop by our Barista to find a great selection of high quality teas steeped fresh, and ready for sipping on-the-go.
