Print Recipe

Our recipe for coffee rubbed steak starts with Oregon espresso roast ground coffee beans, which add a sublime flavor to these delicious steaks. For sides, we’ve grilled some sweet onions and fresh mushrooms, and toasted our MoC garlic bread for a fast and unforgettable meal.

Prep Time: 10 Minutes
Cook Time: 12-15 Minutes

Ingredients

1.5 lb NY strip steaks (4 steaks, 6 oz each)
2 T ancho chili powder
¼ c Caffe Valentina, or Spella espresso roast finely ground
1 shaker Jacobsen Sea Salt Steak Seasoning
Bourbon Butter:
½ c butter, room temperature
1 T garlic
2 T bourbon
1 T fresh chives, minced
1 t kosher salt
1 t fresh ground black pepper
Additional:
1 sweet yellow onion, sliced into ¼” rings
1 lb Portobello mushrooms, trimmed
2 T olive oil
4 oz arugula
1 loaf MoC garlic bread, heated and sliced

Steps

Make ahead: combine chili powder, coffee and steak seasoning and store in airtight container until ready to use. For Bourbon Butter, add all ingredients to food processer and blend until combined well; transfer to airtight container and chill until ready to use.

Preheat grill. Rub steaks generously with coffee rub. Let rest 10 min. Place steaks on hot grill and cook to desired temp (135F for  medium). Meanwhile, toss onions and mushrooms with oil and grill until soft, about 4 min. total. Remove steaks, onions and mushrooms and transfer to serving plates with arugula, warm garlic bread and bourbon butter on warm steaks.
